VEGETABLES WILL BE PRODUCED WITH MODERN TECHNIQUES

A protocol was signed between Atatürk University and Erzurum Province Vegetable Producers Association to produce vegetables by using more modern techniques.

In the protocol signed by the Rector of Atatürk University Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı and President of Erzurum Province Vegetable Producers Association Zafer Özgeriş in the Rector's Office, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sezai Ercişli, Director of Plant Production Application and Research Center Prof. Dr. Adem Aksoy and the members of Vegetable Producers Association were present.

In the protocol covering the joint use of the parts of the land in Atatürk University that will be determined by Atatürk University Plant Production Application and Research Center according to the annual cropping (crop rotation) system by applying modern vegetable production techniques, it was noted that all kinds of technical support, herbal production, demonstration, research and academic studies will take place in the works to be carried out.

Within the scope of the protocol where joint modern vegetable agriculture will be done by making use of the technical support and technological equipment of the university in the land allocated by Atatürk University ;it was decided to establish Vegetable Production Planning and Coordination Commission in which one member will be present in order to plan and coordinate the works to be done.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı stated that continuity and determination are of great importance in vegetable and fruit growing, and that the first golden rule is to plant in accordance with the structure of the soil and climate conditions, and that benefiting from scientific support and technological equipment is also important in production.

Rector Çomaklı, who stated that for the R&D, thesis and internship studies to be carried out with the cooperation to be provided on the lands determined by the Plant Production Application and Research Center every year,by the students of the Faculty of Agriculture within the scope of the protocol regarding the production of vegetable varieties suitable for the region   t joint studies will be carried out on variety and product development, said that the production, demonstration and research planning on the land will be determined annually by the commission.

Emphasizing that Atatürk University is always standing by the producer in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry, Çomaklı: “With this protocol, which adds strength to the mission of contribution to society, we will support our producers both scientifically and technologically and on the other hand, we will have created an infrastructure for R&D, thesis and internship studies for our students. Thanks to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Agriculture and the Plant Production Application and Research Center, significant progress has been made in the region on agriculture and animal husbandry. Thanks to the training and support provided to our farmers by our academicians, we see that the production increased, and the losses decreased. This situation makes us very pleased as a university that is in the service of the public”.
