Having come to Erzurum in order to attend Media and Reporting Conference, held by the Faculty of Communication at Atatürk University, Oğuz Haksever, NTV’s anchorman, visited Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, the rector of Atatürk University, before the conference. Naci İspir, the dean of the Faculty of Communication accompanied Haksever during the visit.
Expressing his pleasure from being in Erzurum, Oğuz Haksever thanked Rector Çomaklı for the sincere hospitality of Atatürk University during the visit in the rector’s office.
Stating that Atatürk University, with its history and the people it has raised, serves as a model for a lot of universities in Turkey, Haksever said that Atatürk University definitely deserves the mission to be one of the universities established by the Republic.
Rector Çomaklı, who said “I express my gratitude to Oğuz Haksever who is our guest to share his knowledge and experiences with the students of Atatürk University”, gave information to Oğuz Haksever about Design and Transformation Project of New Generation University and Eastern Anatolia Observatory (EAO).
Pointing out that, with the project of New Generation University, Atatürk University has been in a struggle for integrating with the society, Çomaklı said that they have knocked every door in Erzurum and that project may be an example for a lot of universities.
Emphasising that EAO is a project of Turkey’s 2023 vision, Rector Çomaklı also stated that EAO will be Turkey’s door to the World in terms of space sciences. Remarking that EAO has reached a budget of 150 million and is the biggest infrastructure project for basic sciences, Rector Çomaklı said that it will provide added-value at an important level in terms of both science and economy.
At the end of the visit, Rector Çomaklı presented his guest, Oğuz Haksever, with a manuscript of Kur’an-ı Kerim and various gifts.
After the visit, coming together with the students of the Faculty of Communication at Atatürk University Performance Arts Centre, Oğuz Haksever shared his experiences with them, the future reporters, during the Media and Reporting Conference.
Giving information about television reporting to the students, Haksever said that being a correspondent is a turning point for reporting. Haksever stated “Reporters on TV are much more useful to the society if they have experienced being a correspondent. If the profession of reporting disappears or faces extinction, a nonsense world of profession appears. The most of the reporters are in Ankara. For it is the capital and the heart of Turkey. There must be reporters each one of whom is responsible for each one of the ministries. What is more, there must even be reporters each one of whom is responsible for one political party. This is such a basic issue that when the number of the correspondents decreases, the number of the news decreases, too.”
After the conference, Prof. Dr. Naci İspir, the Dean of the Faculty of Communication, presented Oğuz Haksever with a plaque for his contributions to the conference.
