DEPARTMENT OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE BECOMES ONE OF THE TOP 5 ACCREDITED DEPARTMENTS IN TURKEY

The studies carried out within the scope of Atatürk University New Generation University Design and Transformation Project continue to yield results, Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı told. Within the scope of the project conducted under the leadership of Rector Çomaklı, the Department of Landscape Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, one of the new faculties of Atatürk University, was successful in the process for the program accreditation studies and took its place among the first 5 departments accredited in Turkey.

The Department of Landscape Architecture started its accreditation studies in 2020. In January 2021, it applied for accreditation to the Landscape Architecture Education and Science Association (PEMDER) which was authorized by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) to measure and evaluate whether the higher education programs giving Landscape Architecture education meet the academic and field-specific standards.

After the application process, the Self-Evaluation Report was started to be prepared, including the evaluation of the program within the scope of a total of 90 sub-criteria under 7 general criteria and 5 discipline-specific criteria, and an additional report was prepared on the desired distance education practices in order to determine to what extent the general and discipline-specific criteria were met during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

After a period of about 14 months, the Department of Landscape Architecture has been accredited for 2 years until 2024 following the visit of the PEMDER Landscape Architecture Education Programs Accreditation Board (PAK) Program Evaluator Team, which lasted for 3 days in October, managing to be one of the first 5 Landscape Architecture Programs accredited in Turkey.
