Rector Çomaklı thanked Mehmet Görmez who did not refuse the invitation of Atatürk University and he gave information about the University.
Rector Çomaklı emphasized that the Faculty of Theology, which is one of the oldest faculties of Ataturk University with 47 years of history, has demonstrated this quality with the graduates it has raised.
Rector Çomaklı stated that Ataturk University not only has the infrastructure required by the 21st century and the pioneers of innovations but its society-university relations continue to increase also.
During the visit, Rector Çomaklı presented various gifts peculiar to Erzurum to his guest Mehmet Görmez.
After the visit, the audiences attended the conference on Information Morality and University where Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez participated as a speaker. Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, Erzurum Deputy Mayor Huseyin Koçan, Provincial Mufti Hasan Hüsnü Sula, faculty deans, NGO representatives, academicians and students attended to the meeting held in The 15th July National Will Hall.
President Çomaklı, who gave the opening speech of the conference, said that in the past 60 years of Atatürk university it is closely related to the mission of the university both with the scientists it has trained and with the environment of peace and tranquility.
Çomaklı: “This mission is to educate a generation of high level of knowledge, education and research, as well as good human development based on our national, spiritual and cultural values. Today we are here to carry out a circle of social-cultural activities that we care about in line with these goals. I would like to express that we are fortunate enough to host our lecturer Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez, former President of Religious Affairs, who has undersigned important projects in the religious understanding and life of our country for more than ten years as President. On this occasion, I would like to thank him on behalf of our university for not refusing us and gracing us with his presence.”
Met with intense interest particularly by students, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez addressed the audience at the Conference on information, Ethics and University.
Expressing that holding conferences in some universities of Turkey and Europe, Görmez said; ‘The title of these conferences was not faith, wisdom and university, but knowledge, morality and university.”
According to Görmez if the information was not based on morality, it would lead to various problems and he said; “I gave these conferences to express the role of our universities in overcoming the information crisis, especially in the communication era and in the day of the information revolution. We must know very well the difference between the value attributed to knowledge in our civilization and the value attributed to knowledge by other civilizations. Information is not just a pile of information. If it truly brings us to our humanity, it is knowledge. Knowledge will be literally knowledge if it leads us to the truth, which is the purpose of our existence. When we look through the verses in the Qur'an under the title of Science and the Prophet (peace be upon him) the glorious words of Muhammad, believe me, you see that no civilization has shown these values to enlightenment. All beings in the heavens and the earth pray to the follower of enlightenment, and they are at will. Even fish in the sea pray to the scientist. I would like to express that a secular definition of knowledge and understanding of science will be difficult to understand the value given to this enlightenment.’’
He continued his words as follows: ‘’One of the biggest mistakes we have made in Islamic history and civilization has been to divide and to break down the unity of enlightenment.
It is one of the breakpoints of our civilization to distinguish and classify mental sciences, transfer sciences, natural sciences, religious sciences, even religious and non-religious. Maveraunnehir is the source of knowledge and civilization in Anatolia and we have nourished from there and practiced our Islam. When we look at it, the information will become procedural after crossing a river. In other words, the knowledge and knowledge of Islam that emerged in the rivers Seyhun and Ceyhun in Hijaz turned into a method, philosophy, and Sufism after passing these rivers. This region was to raise imam-I Bukhari, the greatest of hadith science, and Ibn-I Sina, the greatest of Philosophy, in the Fergana Valley. It was to raise Farabi and Ahmed Yesevi in Farab Village.”
Following the conference, President Çolaklı gave Mehmet görmez a plaque of Atatürk University for his contributions to the conference.
