PROFESSOR DR. UDAY MAITRA DELIVERED THREE CRITICAL LECTURES ON CHEMISTRY EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
An significant academic meeting was held at Atatürk University as part of the Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Program.
Prof. Dr. Uday Maitra, an internationally recognized scientist in the field of chemistry education and an academic member of the Department of Organic Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), visited Atatürk University with his wife, Prof. Dr. Samita Maitra, an academic member of the Department of Chemical Engineering.
Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sözbilir, an academic member of the Department of Chemistry Education at Kazim Karabekir Faculty of Education, organized a variety of scientific and cultural events during the visit. Prof. Dr. Maitra delivered two distinct conferences at the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science: "A Simple, Inexpensive and Versatile Photoluminescent Sensor Platform for Multiple Analytes" and "Drug Design – Is It Really That Easy?" He also addressed organic chemistry mechanisms with systems thinking in his conference titled "A Systems Thinking Approach in Understanding Organic Reaction Mechanisms" at the Kazim Karabekir Faculty of Education.
The educational content and presentation techniques of these conferences, which are closely monitored by academics and students, have offered the participants novel perspectives. According to Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sözbilir, these international events have the potential to enhance cultural interaction, contribute significantly to scientific collaborations, and facilitate the internationalization vision of Atatürk University.
The 94th experimental demonstration presentation, "Chemistry is Fun!", which Prof. Dr. Maitra has conducted in 93 different educational institutions to date, was also held at Erzurum Bilkent Özel Laboratory High School. This event, which piqued the interest of high school students, was assessed as a significant stride toward the cultivation of scientific literacy among young people.
Prof. Dr. Maitra, who also visited numerous units of Atatürk University during his visit, evaluated the research conducted at institutions including the Atatürk University Foreign Affairs Office, DAYTAM, Biodiversity Science Museum, Ice Museum, Letterpress Printing Museum, and Inland Fish Research Center. Maitra assessed Atatürk University as a dynamic and contemporary institution of higher education after being informed about its research, education, and social contribution initiatives.
