PUSHKIN AND REDHOUSE WERE DISCUSSED AT ATATURK UNIVERSITY IN THE CONTEXT OF CULTURAL TOURISM

In the context of cultural tourism, a symposium entitled "Two Europeans in Erzurum: Pushkin and Redhouse" was organised by the Turkish Language and Literature Association Erzurum Branch, the Erzurum Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, and Ataturk University. The forum, which was conducted as part of the Tourism Week events, was conducted in Prof. Dr. Kemal Bıyıkoğlu Hall and was attended by a substantial number of individuals.

 The panel was attended by Professor Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, Rector of Ataturk University, Deputy Mayor of Yakutiye Municipality M. Hanifi İspirli, Ahmet Yer, Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism of Erzurum, President of the Turkish Language and Literature Association Erzurum Branch Murat Ertaş, Dean of the Tourism Faculty Prof. Dr. Gökalp Nuri Selçuk, and numerous students and guests.

 "Erzurum is a Unique Geographical Location for Tourism Diversification"

 Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, the Rector, underscored the significance of Erzurum as a tourism hub in Turkey and the globe due to its cultural and natural assets. Hacımüftüoğlu emphasised that Erzurum's designation as the "European Winter Sports Capital" and the "Economic Cooperation Organisation Tourism Capital" in 2025 serves as a clear indication of its potential. She also discussed the city's offerings in various sectors, including winter, plateau, faith, health, thermal, gastronomy, and cultural tourism.

 Hacımüftüoğlu asserted that the university's research in the areas of art, sports, health, scientific research, and social life is a significant contributor to the city's tourism sector. He also noted that the international students who are hosted by the university serve as voluntary ambassadors for the city.

 The panel evaluated two significant Europeans in the context of Erzurum.

 Murat Ertaş, the President of the Turkish Language and Literature Association's Erzurum Branch, presided over the tribunal. Taner Özdemir delivered a presentation titled "Redhouse's Erzurum Days," while Muhammed Emin Kaptan presented "Redhouse's Works and Linguistic Studies," Rahman Özdemir presented "Puşkin's Life and Works," and Onur Yıldız presented "Puşkin's Journey to Erzurum." At the conclusion of the panel, Murat Ertaş assessed the value of Redhouse and Pushkin in terms of cultural tourism.

 Erzurum's Cultural Memory: Two Europeans

 The panel deliberated on the impressions of Alexander Pushkin, a prominent figure in Russian literature, and Sir James William Redhouse, a renowned linguist and lexicographer, regarding Erzurum, their experiences, and the cultural legacy they left behind. In terms of Erzurum's cultural inventory, the presenters underscored the significance of both names and the contributions of the works written by these individuals to the city's historical memory.

 Plaques were presented to the presenters at the conclusion of the event, and the participants conveyed their desire for the continuation of events in the field of cultural tourism.
