The Rector of Ataturk University, Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı spends the weekend work by visiting the representatives of various Non-Governmental Organizations ( NGO).
With his vice-rector Prof. Dr. Medine Güllüce and the Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Şendoğan Karagöz ,the Rector Çomaklı who added a new one to his visits that became traditional within the scope of University-NGO collaboration visited Health and Social Services Workers’ Union- Erzurum Branch( Sağlık-Sen) ,one of the leading union representatives of Erzurum in health and he came together with the managers on March 8 International Women’s Day.
Within the visit, Rector Çomaklı was the guest of Sağlık-Sen Erzurum Branch President Abdullah Duman and Sağlık-Sen Women's Branch.
“Respect and Love for Women is a Phenomenon That Always Exists in Us”
Starting his speech by congratulating 8 March International Women's Day, Rector Çomaklı said, "Respect and love for women, which is one of the features of our religion and culture, is a phenomenon that always exists in us, not only on 8 March."
The rector Çomaklı said that together with Sağlık-Sen, they had carried out important studies about upholding the rights of women working in healthcare field and improving their working environment and these studies would continue in the future. He pointed out that Sağlık-Sen was a NGO that made no concessions on its determined, principled and responsible concept of unionism.
Congratulating the managers of Sağlık-Sen for their efforts to strengthen democracy in the workplaces, to deliver the demands of the employees to all organs of the union and to make them feel safe and so participate in democratic processes in the workplace, the rector Çomaklı stated that unionization activities were important in terms of the rights of the workers.
“We are Working Hard to Transfer Information to Society”
Emphasizing that the collaboration between universities and NGOs was aimed at transferring the accumulation of knowledge in universities to the society and turning it into benefits and contributing them, the Rector Çomaklı said: “The main task of universities is to provide educational services and to conduct research in basic and applied fields. The purpose of the conducted researches is to produce information and to add new ones to the existing information. Universities, on the one hand, continue their education and training activities, and on the other hand, try to produce information in areas that society will need. We give great importance to NGO visits within the scope of this vision.”
The Branch President Abdullah Duman thanked Rector Çomaklı for his kind visit and spoke in praise of Atatürk University's activities in the field of health. Finding the sensibility of Rector Çomaklı who opened the doors of the university to Erzurum proper, Mr. Duman added that they would be happy to participate in Rector Çomaklı’s projects.
In the breakfast program, Rector Çomaklı listened to the demands by talking with the branch management about many issues from inter-institutional cooperation, union services, employee satisfaction, rights and freedoms.
