RECTOR ÇOMAKLI MET WITH PRESIDENT SEKMEN TO DISCUSS ANIMAL HEALTH PROTECTION.
Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı, rector of Ataturk University, met with Mehmet Sekmen, mayor of Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, to discuss the protection and health of stray animals in Erzurum and the detection and treatment of illnesses in rural farm animals.
Rector Çomaklı was accompanied by Dean of the Veterinary Faculty Prof. Dr. Yavuz Selim Salam and Chief Physician of the Veterinary Faculty Animal Hospital Prof. Bülent Polat when he visited President Sekmen at his office.
During the visit, the planned studies on the sterilization of stray animals, which will be conducted in collaboration with two institutes for the rehabilitation of stray animals, were assessed.
In this context, it was determined that laparoscopic sterilization of stray animals in Erzurum should take place at the Animal Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which has a strong academic staff and a well-equipped infrastructure, and that a large number of stray animals could be sterilized in a short period of time.
During the meeting, the services that can be provided in cooperation between the two institutions for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of farm animals in rural livestock enterprises, as well as the work that must be done to prevent lamb and calf losses as a result of these services, were evaluated.
Prof. Dr. Çomaklı, the university's rector, and Sekmen, the mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, have both declared that they are open to any form of collaboration about the steps to be taken to improve animal health.
