RECTOR ÇOMAKLI MADE INVESTIAGATIONS OF THE CENTRAL CAFETERIA

Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı and his administration team made investigations after the fire that broke out on the roof of the central cafeteria on the campus.

Rector Çomaklı, who examined the works on the fire that started due to an undetermined reason, received information from the managers of the relevant units about how the repairs and alterations would be made and how the process would work. Çomaklı, who followed the unfortunate event that took place yesterday in front of the cafeteria from the first moment, mobilized the university teams, forming a crisis desk. He went back to the central cafeteria to evaluate the situation, observing every moment of the process after the cleaning procedures.

Rector Çomaklı stated that the construction tender would be made immediately in accordance with the regulations and that they would start the repair works immediately. “As a university, we have been through a great disaster. The smoke from the fire on the roof of our cafeteria started to spread with the effect of the wind, which caused panic. However, all of our units calmly intervened in the incident immediately, ensuring that the uneasiness was not only short lived, but also quickly brought the process under control. The first investigations we made in the building, which was extinguished in a short time and then the cooling processes were completed. It was seen there was no significant damage other than the roof of our building. With the examinations we have carried out today, we think that our cafeteria will be put into service in a shorter time than we expected.” he added.

“I would like to thank all our units that responded to the fire”

Stating that this process was overcome in a short time with the power and greatness of our state, Rector Çomaklı made the following remarks: “This event has shown us many things again. Thanks to the greatness of our state, we managed to overcome this unfortunate event with the least damage. It was our greatest consolation that there was no loss of life and no injuries. Our bonding with all units of our city in the spirit of unity and solidarity gave us strength and morale. With these thoughts in mind, I would like to thank and express my gratitude to our Erzurum Governor's Office, Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, district municipalities, Police Department, Erzurum Regional Directorate of Forestry, AFAD, DHİM, UMKE, Palen and related units of our university for their devoted work during this process. I hope that such incidents will not happen again."
