RECTOR HACIMÜFTÜOĞLU ATTENDED THE BIODIVERSITY SYMPOSIUM

Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu attended the 7th Eurasian Biodiversity Symposium, where Atatürk University is a stakeholder.

Erzurum Technical University (ETU) hosted a program for academics and students, including Rector Hacımüftüoğlu, ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Azerbaijan Dendrology Institute Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Ramazan Mammadov, Yeditepe University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Metin Turan, and many others, both in-person and online.

"Our University is Hosting the Biodiversity Science Museum"

At the commencement of the hybrid program, Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu delivered a speech that underscored the significance of the subject matter. The 7th International Eurasian Biodiversity Symposium drew almost 500 experts from 27 nations and Rector Hacımüftüoğlu expressed gratitude to everybody who contributed to achieving this vision. Prof. Dr. Hacımüftüoğlu said that the symposium was mostly attended online, with a focus on biodiversity conservation and sustainability. Because of my speciality, we employ some of the same experimental approaches. Some of the concepts and procedures we use are also applied in biodiversity research. As a result, I am directly familiar with the issue. Atatürk University now has a research centre and a biodiversity science museum. You can visit our museum at the conclusion of the program. As a result, the fact that such a prominent institution and museum is housed at Atatürk University demonstrates the significance of this subject. The roots of biodiversity are here, and they demonstrate that the future of biodiversity is also here."

Rector Hacımüftüoğlu: "Discussing these here today is promising for the future"

Rector Hacımüftüoğlu emphasised the importance of biodiversity as a key sector, stating that the institution is committed to supporting related research. Our institution, which contains the world's foremost biodiversity research facility and museum, welcomes any scientists who want to work in this subject. The conservation and transmission of live organisms to future generations is critical. The integration of agricultural operations and technology moves nations one step further in this sector. With the advancements achieved in our nation, the use of technology in agriculture is becoming more common. Furthermore, preserving endemic species is vital for global heritage. Discussing these concerns here now indicates favourably for the future. With these ideas, as a university, I am pleased to participate as a stakeholder to such an important project, and I believe that the symposium's outcomes will benefit our country's and the world's agricultural and biodiversity operations."

Prof. Dr. Mammadov: "It is necessary to create biodiversity awareness"

Prof. Dr. Ramazan Mammadov, Faculty Member of the Azerbaijan Dendrology Institute, began his remarks with greetings from brotherly Azerbaijan. Prof. Dr. Mammadov said that the first symposium began in Azerbaijan in 2015, adding, "We have held this conference in other nations at different periods. Bahtiyar Vahapzade, one of Azerbaijan's best poets, wrote a wonderful verse: "They say that the mother is the pillar of the house; if a pillar falls, a wall falls." If we lose Mother Nature, there would be no villages, no cities, and the planet will fall." In other words, biodiversity is very vital to mankind. Our goal in arranging this symposium is to introduce young people to the many aspects of biodiversity. To inspire children to defend and cherish nature, as well as to demonstrate the work being done in this subject to young people. With these ideas, I'd want to thank ETU and stakeholder institutions for hosting us and laying the groundwork for a conversation on such an important topic."

Prof. Dr. Turan says: "Protection of Biodiversity should have a great priority for the future of humanity"

According to Yeditepe University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Metin Turan, roughly 400 acres of land are degraded every minute, which is a frightening figure. Biodiversity is not a traditional subject, but rather an interdisciplinary area. In this regard, the cooperation of all scientific disciplines is crucial. As previously said, nearly 400 decares of land are degraded per minute. This implies that every minute, an area equivalent to 32 football fields is stripped from the ground. Biodiversity refers to the variety of life on Earth, which is vital to ecosystem health, stability, and production. Nature's cycles are maintained by the cohabitation of many plant, animal, and microbe species. This variety helps ecosystems to be robust to external causes while still providing people with critical resources such as food, medicine, and clean water. Biodiversity also contributes significantly to the fight against climate change. As a result, biodiversity conservation should be a top concern for the future of both people and the planet."

"First we ruin it, then we look for ways to fix it"

Prof. Dr. Bülent Çakmak, Rector of ETU, began his remarks by expressing his excitement at hosting such a significant event for the globe and humanity's future. Rector Çakmak emphasised the importance of scientific research in today's society, stating that mankind is a fascinating and unique species. First, he ruins the universe, pollutes the earth, and pollutes the air, before seeking save. On one side of the planet, people are dying from hunger, while on the other, people are struggling with obesity. On one side of the earth, tens of thousands of people are being killed, while the rest of the world watches. I hope and pray that we may be improved."

Rector Çakmak "We Need Science More Than Ever"

Rector Çakmak emphasised the importance of biodiversity for many ecosystem processes, including agricultural productivity, forest ecosystems, water cycle, and climate regulating. The extinction of a species may produce cascading repercussions in these balanced systems, affecting people's quality of life. Biodiversity also has cultural and aesthetic elements; many societies acknowledge and cherish nature's variety. Thus, biodiversity protection is a social and economic responsibility as well as an ecological one. I'd want to thank you for your contributions to the 7th Eurasian Biodiversity Symposium, which we're convening in light of these sensitivities, and I hope it's a constructive programme."

The two-day schedule will continue with expert presentations on biodiversity.
