RECTOR HACIMÜFTÜOĞLU ATTENDED THE MEETING ON ERZURUM BASTIONS
Professor Dr. Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu, the Rector of Ataturk University, was present at the conference on Erzurum Bastions, which was presided over by Mustafa Çiftçi, the Governor of Erzurum.
During the meeting, which is of considerable significance in terms of the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, the topic of the preservation, restoration, and utilisation of the bastions, which shed light on the ancient history of Erzurum, as a cultural treasure was addressed. In the meeting, where the managers of the institutions within the area of responsibility of the bastions were also present, the necessity of conserving the historical richness of Erzurum and conveying it to future generations was underlined.

In his remarks delivered at the meeting, Rector Hacımüftüoğlu said that Erzurum has had strategic significance throughout the course of history. He noted that the Erzurum Bastions are among the most significant components that contribute to the historical richness of our city. Not only do these military constructions serve as a barrier of protection, but they also symbolise the spirit of resistance and patriotism that our people possess. The effort that is being done to preserve this historical legacy and to ensure that it continues to exist as a cultural treasure is unquestionably supported by Ataturk University.
The statement made by Hacımüftüoğlu was that the university is continuously working towards the future by drawing inspiration from the past. Furthermore, he emphasised the need of bringing the historical richness of Erzurum to the tourist industry by providing assistance for academic research. With its determination to continue its mission of keeping the ancient past of the city alive and transferring it to new generations, Atatürk University will continue to be one of the most important stakeholders regarding this process, as stated by the Rector Hacımüftüoğlu. He stated that our university is engaged in a number of projects that aim to protect the history and cultural heritage of our city. The construction of bastions stands out as one of the most significant aspects of these constructions. These kinds of buildings have the potential to not only make a financial contribution to our city but also to play a leadership role in the development of historical awareness by bringing them to the attention of tourists.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, the planning of the works that will be carried out in the future for the purpose of protecting and restoring Erzurum Bastions was discussed.
