Uzundere District Governor Hakan Şeler and the Mayor Hilmi Aktoprak visited Ataturk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı for holding consultation about the works that can be done together.
Stating that Uzundere which was chosen as “the 11th slow city of Turkey” in 2016 with its historical and natural beauties by the International Association of Calm Cities (Cittaslow) has an important potential, the rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı pointed out that Uzundere district, where the Black Sea and Eastern Anatolian climate is experienced, hosts thousands of tourists every year with its natural beauties and historical structures.
Stating that Uzundere is very valuable in terms of tourism with its Tortum Lake, Tortum Waterfall, Yedigöller, plateaus, Öşvank Church and high mountain ranges, Çomaklı said that they carried out various studies as Atatürk University and emphasized that in the results of the research conferences held within the scope of the New Generation University Design and Transformation vision tourism’s taking the first place accelerates the steps to be taken in this direction.
Stating that they have an aim of putting the building which belongs to the university in Uzundere into service as a boutique hotel under the Faculty of Tourism, Rector Çomaklı expressed that the exchange of ideas was very important for the development of Erzurum and thanked his guests for their kind visit.
Noting that in addition to its many natural beauties, Uzundere attracts a lot of attention with its historical churches, bridges and sports activities, the Governor Şeker and the Mayor Aktoprak said Uzundere which has hosted many civilizations in its history of three thousand years begins to be the stomping ground for domestic and international tourists after being accepted to "calm city" network that aims to protect the traditional lifestyles.
Stating that they are always in touch with Atatürk University, the guests stated that they are open to all kinds of cooperation and thanked the Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı for his hospitality.
