SOCIAL MEDIA? SOCIAL WOUND? CONFERENCE WAS HELD
Deputy Head of TRT Foreign Publications Department Serdar Aydın who came to Erzurum to present serial conferences titled 'Social Media or Social Wound?' met with the students.
Serdar Aydın, who informed the students of the Faculty of Engineering, Communication, Law and Pharmacy for two days, supported his presentation with slides, photos and videos.
Speaking about the benefits, harms, how,and in what age range to use social media, Aydın mentioned about the impact of social media and phone use, especially on children.
Aydın pointed out that the technological invention that has undergone the most change in human mind and relations except alphabet / text, numbers throughout history is undoubtedly computer, internet and social media and he added that approximately 60 percent of the world's population is an active social media user.
“As Young People, We Are Trying To Be More Online”
Serdar Aydın: “Today, the relations are mostly established, developing and ending on the internet.One of the most important features of social media is that the dosage cannot be adjusted.Young people are more inclined to social media and communication technologies.Therefore, it affects young people more intensely than middle age groups.As the younger people, we are trying to be more online now. ”
Indicating that the virtual world is bombarding a lot of stimulants at the same time, Aydın said: “As a result, the attention of the person is shifting to information without superficial depth.Internet technologies affect all processes of the human brain as well as finding, storing and interpreting information, managing attention, making sense of senses, remembering and forgetting.For the child hypnotized across the screen of the computer or phone, each stimulus confirms his presence.Children or individuals who are used to the unlimited number of stimuli offered by the internet become lonely in the absence of stimulants and feel the sense of abstinence.Social media addiction; It leads to countless stimuli, difficulty in focusing, decreased reading rates, impoverished communication among people, social isolation and virtualization of communication ”.
