The assembly process of the 4-meter telescope mirror has started at Atatürk University Astrophysics Research and Application Center (ATASAM) Eastern Anatolia Observatory (DAG), which is among the vision projects of our country and one of the main elements of the National Space Program.
The assembly process of the mirror, which came to Erzurum from Moscow, the capital of Russia, in November last year and was taken to the Observatory when the conditions became favorable, started. The assembly operations of the 4-meter mirror of the DAG Telescope, which is one of the most critical and sensitive stages of the works carried out within the scope of DAG, are carried out with precision by expert teams.
Following the successful completion of the processes such as removing the M1 mirror from the box - control - assembly test, which must be done before the assembly process, by the DAG team consisting of domestic and foreign personnel on October 29, an important step was taken in terms of the scientific world and the installation of the mirror was started as of October 31, after the final controls.
Installation Process Will Be Broadcast Live 2 Days A WeekEmphasizing that science enthusiasts can witness the installation, which will be broadcast live on Tuesdays and Fridays, Atatürk University Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı made the following remarks: “We wanted to share another pride with our country by starting the installation of our DAG mirror on a day of great importance and value for our country, such as October 29. There are only a few days left until the completion of our DAG project, which we believe will bring a new breath to the scientific world of our country. The smooth start of this assembly process, which is one of the most sensitive stages of this process, made us happy as well as having moments of pride. I would like to thank all the institutions and organizations that have supported this process from the beginning, especially our DAG team, who contributed, and I wish that the process will be beneficial for our country and the scientific world, especially our university.”
