With its 65-year cultural and scientific tradition, technological infrastructure, faculties, research centers, institutes, vocational schools and thousands of academicians who are experts in their fields, Atatürk University, which is the science center of the east, was chosen as a Research University by the Higher Education Board (YÖK). Lending impetus to his works thereaway, Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Çomaklı completed the Evaluation Meetings of the Research University Criteria.

Rector Çomaklı, who started the assessment meetings with research centers, later came together with faculties, colleges and institutes and talked about the responsibilities of being a Research University and about their future plans.

At the meetings held face-to-face and online under the chairmanship of  Çomaklı, the administrators made presentations about the scientific studies of the units and presented their opinions and suggestions on various issues.

Speaking about the process after becoming a Research University, Rector Çomaklı reminded that within the scope of the "Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization Project" carried out by the Presidency of Higher Education, 20 universities out of a total of 131 state universities providing education in Turkey were determined as Research Universities, proudly stating that one of them is Atatürk University.

Pointing out that they revised the New Generation University Design and Transformation Project in line with the mission of the Research University, Prof. Dr. Çomaklı stated that the Research Universities determined in the Research-Oriented Mission Differentiation Program are assessed within the scope of 32 indicators under the titles of "Research Capacity", "Research Quality" and "Interaction and Cooperation" through the Performance Monitoring Index, adding that all university members have important duties to keep these assessments always high.

Emphasizing that they have raised the targets in institutes, faculties and colleges in the context of the mission of a research university, Rector Çomaklı stated that they are a university that can produce scientific solutions to social problems besides education, that is sensitive to the demands of the people, directs them and takes place at the forefront of universal science, with 65 years of experience and new responsibilities.  Speaking highly that Atatürk University will continue to write new success stories, Çomaklı noted that the new targets set to increase the competitiveness of the university will be shared with all academic staff in the coming days.
